This is the first episode and the first step in painting this portrait. This video consists of doing the graphs or grid lines to copy the exact form of the reference photo. This also includes the first layer of painting the face or the base color which includes adding the dark lines or tones of the important parts of the face. The next episode will be on the next day. Thank you John for the wonderful tutorial, you explain everything in such detail, I've always found portraits difficult but with your knowledge I have made really excellent progress. It doesn't matter how long the videos are if people are learning. Could you advise how you keep your palette wet and good consistency with the paint, as mine dries out really quick? It's taking me longer as I have to make these complex colour combinations each time. You are a truly a gifted artist, keep up the fantastic work. Tony
Hello Tony, thank you very much! You can spray your palette with a little water or even the paints when its drying so you can keep it wet

I use adobe photoshop but you can search in android app also

What type of pen is used for the grid and sketching ? I couldnβt hear
Y were u mixing shades/colours instead of using the pre-mixed skin tone shades ,(like browns)that confuses begniners!
Beginners need to learn how to MIX! Mixing is the basic. You cannot go to college if you don't start with elementary.
