  13. Love this, just wondering, is the angle of the reflection correct?

    • This may be a little belated and long winded but…
While his paintings are not meant to be about perfection and are more mildly suggestive in nature, there is however a missing ridge line in the water reflection. The main roof line of the house should be just as pronounced as his other roof lines but is not.

Out of interest and as you may already know, to determine angles and shadows, take a light source and shine it on a subject where the imaginary sun would be cast and look at the shadow formation. As for water reflectivity, you would have to stretch/skew the shadow somewhat as it depends where you are portraying yourself to be in contrast of the backdrop of the water source. So to answer your question of ‘ is the angle of the reflection correct? No, it is not but is relatively close. Take a mountain reflection for instance. Cut a mountain shape out of paper and then draw an outline of it and then lay it upside down. That becomes the relative reflection and angle but again, the angle of the mountainous reflection will depend where you are situated at the time. The further away you are from the mountain, the smaller the reflection becomes. In this case, the house sits at the edge of the water and the reflection should be relative to the house in opposite angles reflected in the water which they are close to being. More importantly, wind plays a large roll in a water reflective painting. The stronger the wind and the rougher the water results in less reflective clarity of the object. Calm wind with placid water equals a clear and distinct reflection. Its opposite is also true.
