  16. When i mix ultramarine blue and cadmium red i get brown instead of violet, its really frustating.

    • wesleyam you will always get a duller violet from that mix. Adding white does help a lot but if you seek a more intense violet use a red that is biased towards violet such as Quinacridone Magenta (PR122) or just use Dioxozene Purple (PV23).

    • Try to add white. I had the same problem adding white helped alot

    • try to clean your brush first… maybe it has some paints on it that mixes on the colors you are mixing..

  17. You are a brilliant artist John. I would like to see you paint a magpie

    • thank you Brian.. Yes I like that bird.. :)

  18. Hai thk uu so much .can u explain about varnish

    • you’re welcome… you can use acrylic varnish and use brush to apply

  19. I didn’t know that you get a brown by mixing red and black, thank you! :-D
I always used red and green to mix brown, but it seems like you don’t recommend that. Why? :-)

    • Maurice Jerome what John actually did was to make a maroon (deep red) then added yellow (to make a deep orange). So actually he made orange and that is where ā€œbrownā€ lives in the color space and it became brown because he darkened it and he added some blue (from the black). It is the same for Green and Red mix because you are mixing all three ā€œmainā€ colors that equate to a deep orange.

    • Oh thanks! :-) I’ll try it out!:-D

    • yes you can also mix red and green to create brown… it depends on you where you are comfortable. for beginners black and red is easier..

  20. You are amazing and this is definitely the best color mixing video I saw :) simple explanation ! Thanks a lot … would love to know how many years have you been painting ,?? Are you a full time artist ,??
